Piping and Plant Layout Principal Engineer

We are seeking a highly experienced Piping and Plant Layout Principal Engineer to join our team at Technip Energies. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for leading the design and engineering of piping and plant layout systems for major energy transition, olefins, refinery, and petrochemical projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage piping and plant layout activities and deliverables on Pre-FEED, FEED, and EPC projects.
  • Develop and deliver project specifications, work instructions, procedures, calculations, reports, requisitions, and bid evaluations.
  • Develop and deliver plant layout drawings from initial concept through to detailed design.
  • Provide technical piping and layout expertise and recommendations to all associated parties on a project.
  • Review and provide input to project schedules to ensure piping deliverables and activities can be carried out in accordance with project requirements in a timely manner.
  • Represent the piping team on projects in all engineering and design meetings.
  • Present and explain technical issues to clients, vendors, and other project stakeholders in a clear and articulate manner.
  • Communicate in a clear and documented approach with all other disciplines to ensure information is provided and shared.
  • Develop project deliverables and activities in accordance with relevant codes and standards applicable to the project.
  • Produce discipline calculations using approved software and tools.
  • Produce discipline deliverables using approved software and tools.
  • Adhere to discipline and corporate procedures, policies, and standards and provide feedback and further develop where applicable for continuous improvement.
  • Lead the execution of works in multi-office environments.
  • Lead the discipline activities on site visits, project meetings, and technical reviews.
  • Provide discipline input to project proposals.
  • Prepare and check engineering procedures and standards.
  • Be proficient in preparing and checking discipline basis of design, specifications, reports, detailed drawings, piping material take-offs, valve data sheets, requisitions, technical bid evaluations, and input for cost estimates.
  • Check and review vendor documentation and drawings.
  • Provide input to construction sub-contracts and evaluate bids.
  • Be available to travel in the UK and overseas for meetings, site visits, and inspections to meet project requirements.
Requirements:
  • Mechanical engineering degree or equivalent qualification.
  • Extensive experience in onshore piping and plant layout design, engineering procurement, and construction for petrochemical plants.
  • Must be able to demonstrate previous Pre-FEED, FEED, and EPC experience.
  • Has experience as a piping technical lead.
  • Experience of the principles of plant layout and piping design, including the layout of pipework, layout of areas for mechanical equipment, development of access & maintenance requirements.
  • Competent in developing piping and plant layout designs from concept to detailed design.
  • Knowledge of pipe stress and supporting requirements to develop early layouts prior to detailed stress analysis.
  • Must be able to demonstrate significant knowledge of piping European, American, and International standards applicable to the petrochemical industry.
  • Experience of developing specifications, procedures, work instructions.
  • Competent in using 2D CAD software – Autocad and/or Microstation and production of 2D layout drawings.
  • Competent in the use of 3D CAD software and 3D model development using E3D and S3D.
  • Experienced in performing material take-off either from the model or from general arrangements.
  • Strong communication skills include being tactful and articulate.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience of leading layout reviews and 3D model reviews.
  • Experience in participation in constructability reviews and P&ID reviews.
  • Experience of leading multi-office projects.
  • Self-motivated to move projects forward.
  • Experienced in Microsoft Office applications.

  • Competent in carrying out stress calculations using industry-recognized software.
  • Competent in piping materials selection and developing piping material specifications.
  • Modularization experience.
  • Membership of an appropriate engineering institution.
  • Site experience.
  • UK project experience.
  • Experience in energy transition projects.
