Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Laboratory Technician to join our team at the University of Bristol. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the running of our undergraduate teaching laboratories, working closely with academic staff and postgraduate demonstrators to ensure the smooth delivery of our teaching programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with the day-to-day running of the laboratories, including setting up for and clearing up after classes, repairing equipment for undergraduates, and training students and demonstrators in the safe use of apparatus.
  • Record student marks and monitor their attendance and progress, providing regular feedback and support to students as needed.
  • Work closely with academic staff and postgraduate demonstrators to develop and deliver teaching programs, ensuring that all activities are aligned with the University's teaching and learning strategies.
  • Provide technical support to students and staff, including troubleshooting equipment and providing guidance on the safe use of laboratory equipment.
  • Contribute to the development of laboratory procedures and protocols, ensuring that all activities are conducted in a safe and efficient manner.
Requirements
  • Education to A-level standard in a science-based discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • Hands-on experience of trouble-shooting electronics and training users in the safe use of equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with academic staff, postgraduate demonstrators, and undergraduate students.
  • Comfortable prioritizing competing demands in a fast-paced environment.
