Position Description
The Renewable Electricity Directorate is a prominent and dynamic team, central to achieving the government's clean power objectives by 2030 and advancing towards net zero. Within this Directorate, the Renewables Delivery team is tasked with designing and implementing low-carbon support mechanisms, facilitating the integration of renewable energy into the broader electricity framework, and formulating supply chain policies.
This role will focus on shaping the future of the government’s primary renewables support initiative, Contracts for Difference, which serves as the key instrument to achieve our ambitious renewable energy goals. Additionally, the role involves exploring innovative mechanisms to expedite the deployment of renewable energy, ensuring that consumers benefit from these advancements.
The team fosters a strong culture of collaboration and prioritizes learning and development, providing an excellent environment for the successful candidate to advance their career while tackling a variety of policy challenges. We also collaborate closely with other Directorates, including those focused on electricity network development and broader electricity market reforms.

Key Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be expected to adapt to the evolving priorities of the new government. Responsibilities may include:
- Leading the development of potential policy options for the Contracts for Difference scheme to enhance renewable energy deployment, which includes analyzing proposals with colleagues, briefing senior officials, presenting at board meetings, and drafting recommendations for Ministers.
- Engaging with external stakeholders regarding potential policy reforms.
- Investigating and implementing necessary changes to legislation and contracts to support new policy initiatives.

Office Attendance:
The Department operates a discretionary hybrid working policy, allowing for a blend of working hours from your designated workplace and from home within the UK. The current expectation for staff is to be present in the office or a non-home-based location for 40-60% of the time during the accounting period.
