Position Overview: We are seeking a passionate and skilled Consultant Cardiologist to enhance our innovative multidisciplinary Cardiology unit within NHS Dumfries and Galloway. This team comprises four Consultants, a Specialty Doctor, two rotating Middle Graders, and a dedicated group of Cardiology Nurse Specialists, Rehabilitation Team, and Heart Failure Nurses.

Service Scope: The clinical team delivers a comprehensive array of cardiology services to a diverse population of 148,000 across an expansive area of 2,500 square miles in South West Scotland.

Sub-specialty Opportunities: The successful candidate may have the opportunity to allocate one day each week (2 PAs) to focus on their sub-specialty interests, fostering professional growth and expertise.

Facilities: Based at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary, the position offers access to a full suite of diagnostic and therapeutic facilities, including:

  • Treadmill exercise testing
  • Transthoracic and transoesophageal echocardiography with Doppler
  • Stress echocardiography and 3-D imaging capabilities
  • Tilt-testing
  • Holter monitoring with community-based recording sites
  • CT coronary angiography

Contribution to Service Development: The selected candidate will play a vital role in implementing enhancements to our existing services and will significantly contribute to pivotal clinical advancements for our new healthcare facility.
