About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer to join our team at the Department for Work and Pensions. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will play a key role in leading the development of software solutions that meet the needs of our customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development of software solutions using modern JavaScript/Node.JS technologies, frameworks, and design principles.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement software solutions that meet business requirements.
  • Develop and maintain high-quality software code, ensuring it is reliable, efficient, and scalable.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to understand business needs and develop software solutions that meet those needs.
  • Lead and mentor junior engineers, providing guidance and support to help them grow in their careers.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies, applying that knowledge to improve our software development processes and tools.
Requirements
  • Expert knowledge and extensive experience of modern JavaScript/Node.JS technologies, frameworks, and design principles.
  • Extensive experience of Test-Driven Development (TDD) and Behaviour Driven Development (BDD) practices and techniques.
  • Knowledge and experience of APIs, RESTful services, and Microservice Architectures.
  • Expert knowledge and extensive experience of developing on cloud-based environments like AWS and Azure.
  • Knowledge and experience of SQL and NoSQL database applications such as Postgres, MySQL, and MongoDB.
  • Experience and the skills required to build up a useful, robust automated test suite to support a continuous deployment environment.
  • Experience of leading multidisciplinary engineering teams, communicating with stakeholders, driving delivery, ensuring standards, ways of working, and building supportive and collaborative culture.
