About Crosfields School

Crosfields School is a co-educational, independent day school for pupils aged 3 to 16. Located near Reading, Berkshire, it accommodates approximately 625 pupils.

Founded in 1957, the school is now run as a charitable trust under a single governing body. In 2021 the school created two distinct areas, the Junior School which encompasses all year groups from Nursery to Year 6, and the Senior School for Years 7 to 11.

Job Purpose

The successful candidate will be responsible for fostering enjoyment and enthusiasm for the study of art. They will enhance and steer the teaching and development of art throughout the Junior School, raising standards of pupil achievement in art at all levels.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create and oversee the direction of art in the Junior School.
  • Be aware of developments in the teaching of art, such as the use of IT, and implement these and share best practice.
  • Teach art to pupils from year 4 to year 7.
  • Guide the planning, resource creation and assessment overview in art for the whole of the Junior School.
  • Support Junior School scholarship applicants as they prepare for assessment in year 6 (both internal and external).
  • Contribute to the co-curricular side of school life, including running a Junior Art Club, after school.
  • Ensure all resources are well maintained and updated regularly within the constraints of the subject budget.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for art education and a commitment to delivering high-quality teaching and learning experiences. They will be able to work collaboratively with colleagues to develop and implement effective curriculum plans and assessments.

Candidates should have a strong understanding of the National Curriculum and be able to adapt their teaching to meet the needs of pupils with a range of abilities and learning styles.
