Job Purpose

The University of Glasgow is seeking a highly skilled Project and Industry Engagement Manager to join a consortium of seven universities in a £45M programme of challenge-led research into digital twinning for transport decarbonisation. This ambitious research programme demands a significant project management team, led by the Hub Manager, with support from two project and industrial engagement managers (PIEMs). The Research Hub is led by Heriot-Watt University, and the support team of seven roles is based principally in Heriot-Watt, with one PIEM based at the University of Glasgow.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Manage and report on research work packages and demonstrators across all academic and industrial partners, including timelines, action logs, and risk registers.
  2. Lead Challenge Led Demonstrator projects (CLDs) jointly with academic leaders, using agile approaches to deliver transport mode-focused digital twins and inter-modal transport models.
  3. Support Work Packages (WP) with academic leadership, managing the resourcing and delivery of research outputs over the programme.
  4. Coordinate activity across WPs and CLDs to ensure programme interdependencies are respected.
  5. Maintain risk registers for WPs and CLDs and manage the mitigation of risks.
  6. Develop and maintain performance dashboards and KPI reporting.
  7. Update project plans and resource and financial reporting.
  8. Ensure timely and effective industrial engagement in research activities and effective communications with stakeholders.
  9. Support engagement with policy communities through reporting to the TransiT Policy Advisory Board and bilateral engagements.
  10. Proactively manage engagement with related research hubs to ensure cross-learning and complementarity of research messages.
  11. Prepare monthly operations reports and quarterly reports for the Transit Executive Team and bi-annual reports for the Advisory Board.
  12. Identify and resolve complex issues using specialist knowledge and initiative.
  13. Assess critical situations accurately and make decisions.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

The successful candidate will have:

  • A degree in a relevant field, or equivalent experience.
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of financial management, including budgeting and financial analysis.
  • In-depth knowledge of project/programme management methodologies.
  • Well-developed understanding of policies surrounding Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and data protection.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
  • Professional qualification in project management, such as PRINCE 2.
  • Knowledge of the transport sector and/or decarbonisation policies.
  • Knowledge of UKRI reporting requirements.
  • Understanding of the challenges and opportunities within the Higher Education sector.
  • Understanding of policies surrounding research management.
Skills
  • Ability to persuade, motivate, and lead a team.
  • Competent in the use of relevant IT packages, such as MS Project Professional.
  • Substantial professional expertise in project management.
  • Excellent interpersonal, influencing, and presentation skills.
  • Able to understand and communicate complex issues effectively.

Experience
  • Experience of working in a project management role within a research or software development environment.
  • Experience of working closely with stakeholders across all levels of the organisation.
  • Experience of using Agile Project Management approaches.
Terms and Conditions

The salary for this role is Grade 8, £48,350 - £56,021 per annum. This is a full-time position (35 hours per week) with funding available until 30 June 2029 in the first instance.
