About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Performance and Simulation Engineer to join our Vehicle Dynamics Group. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for proposing, investigating, and developing solutions to address the performance limitations of our current car and delivering lap time improvements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Proactively support the future car development programme using simulation tools and methodologies to define design targets that will deliver the fastest car over the season.
  • Prototype and develop new concepts that deliver performance differentiation from our competitors in the existing simulation environment and conduct necessary functionality and performance studies.
  • Improve and develop methodologies to simulate vehicle performance for evidence-based decisions on the design of the car.
  • Contribute to and support the continuous development of simulation tools to improve the team's ability to extract vehicle performance.

Requirements:

  • Excellent academic background with a mechanical, automotive, or aerospace engineering degree (preferably masters, 2:1 minimum grade), or equivalent qualification.
  • A physical understanding of racing car dynamics, suspension kinematics and compliance, vertical dynamics, tyres, and aerodynamics.
  • The ability to examine experimental and simulation data to support evidence-based decisions.
  • Experience with optimisation problems.
  • Familiarity with modelling and simulation of vehicles and its subsystems.
  • The ability to collaborate in interdisciplinary teams, to ambitious deadlines, and under minimal supervision.
  • Effective and confident communication at all levels.
  • Self-initiative and motivation.

Desirable:

  • Advanced knowledge of Matlab is essential. Experience with Dymola would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of Lagrangian mechanics is a bonus.
