Vehicle Preparation and Paint Specialist

is seeking to fill the position of
Vehicle Preparation and Paint Specialist
within our
Repair Bay - All Service One,
reporting directly to the Repair Bay Manager.
The role encompasses the meticulous preparation of previously used buses, ensuring full readiness for painting as required.
This includes:
- Thorough examination and cleaning of bodywork prior to painting.
- Preparing surfaces for painting: cleaning, buffing, polishing (both manually and with machinery), priming, and masking areas not to be painted.
- Utilizing computerized paint mixing technology to create color matches.
- Applying paint using spray machines or handheld spray guns.
- Buffing and polishing surfaces between paint coats.
- Estimating costs and maintaining accurate records of materials used.
- Managing paint stock effectively within the mixing area.
- Staying informed about new products and techniques.
- Interpreting complex engineering drawings and following verbal instructions.
- Engaging in the fitting and assembly of metal components during the assembly process as per customer specifications.
- Ensuring safe operation of tools and equipment related to component manufacture and assembly.
- Adhering to the company's Health and Safety protocols.
- Participating in training related to the role and assisting in training colleagues.
General Responsibilities:
- Conduct all duties in compliance with General Data Protection regulations, maintaining confidentiality.
- Ensure work meets ISO 9001 standards.
- Treat all individuals with respect in accordance with the Dignity at Work Procedure.
- Uphold high standards of personal accountability.
- Follow training guidelines for the use of company-provided tools and equipment.
- Collaborate on health and safety matters and refrain from misusing safety equipment.
- Prioritize personal health and safety, as well as that of others.
- Adhere to the no smoking policy.
- Complete basic administrative tasks and maintain a tidy work area.
Qualifications:
- Education: Time served in a relevant discipline (e.g., Fitter, Mechanic, Plumber) or 4 years of relevant experience in paint preparation and spraying.
- Experience: Proficient in using various hand, power, and air tools.
- Skills: Ability to read engineering drawings (training available).
- Disposition: Strong interpersonal skills and willingness to undertake training.
- Flexibility: Proven ability to adapt to overtime and changing shift patterns.
