JOB TITLE: Senior Engineering Manager (z Mainframe - MQ)

SALARY: £80,206 - £94,360

LOCATION: Remote with Hybrid Options

HOURS: Full-time - This role includes on-call responsibilities outside of standard working hours, with additional compensation for on-call duties.

WORKING PATTERN: Our approach is hybrid, requiring at least two days per week in the office, or 40% of your time spent at our office location.

About the Role

As a Senior Engineering Manager, you will play a crucial role in the z Mainframe Lab, overseeing a dedicated team of approximately 12 z MQ engineers. This team is responsible for maintaining the essential infrastructure that supports Lloyds Banking Group's strategic transactional processing systems, particularly the IBM Z Mainframe, which is integral to our high-end transactional processing needs.

In this leadership position, you will be tasked with inspiring and guiding your team to enhance operational agility and efficiency within the z Mainframe Lab. The services you will oversee are vital to our infrastructure, necessitating a commitment to high-quality standards while adapting swiftly to meet customer demands. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to significant transformation initiatives within the z Mainframe team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of approximately 12 engineers, focusing on personal development and daily task management (approximately 30% of your time).
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to convert technical incidents into understandable terms.
  • Oversee Incident and Change Management processes.
  • Implement Risk Management and control measures.
  • Drive service enhancements, transition to Agile methodologies, and utilize JIRA and Jira Align tools.
  • Prioritize backlogs and manage team capacity effectively.
  • Plan and support system upgrades and decommissioning activities.
  • Serve as the technical point of contact for the team, leading engineering product evolution within the z Mainframe Lab.
  • Assist the Technical Product Owner in various initiatives.
  • Foster talent development, supporting apprenticeships, internships, and graduate hires.

Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience in operational and line management of a small to medium-sized engineering team.
