Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Specialty Doctor in Stroke Medicine to join our team at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Main Responsibilities
  • Maintain the highest clinical standards in Stroke services, with a focus on Hyper-Acute Stroke Unit (HASU) clinics, Acute Stroke Unit (ASU) clinics, and Transient Ischaemic Attack (TIA) services.
  • Participate in weekly Stroke Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) meetings to discuss patient care and treatment plans.
  • Examine, investigate, and treat patients attending the Department, providing high-quality medical care and support.
  • Supervise and mentor junior doctors and specialist nurses, promoting a culture of excellence and teamwork.
  • Contribute to the Department's internal education activities, including teaching nurses, medical students, and junior doctors, and participating in external educational activities, such as meetings and courses.
  • Engage in research, audit, and clinical governance activities to improve patient outcomes and service delivery.
  • Provide medical support to non-medical staff and perform administrative tasks relevant to Stroke services, such as writing letters and compiling data.
  • Clinical liaison with other hospital departments, general practitioners, and external agencies to ensure seamless patient care.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve the hospital's planned activity for inpatient and outpatient services.

Person SpecificationAudit and Research
  • Knowledge of audit principles and evidence of participation in and completion of audit projects, with implementation of outcomes.
Essential Criteria
  • MRCP or equivalent qualification.
  • Full registration with the General Medical Council and a License to Practise.
  • MBchB/MBBS or equivalent qualification.
  • At least four years' full-time postgraduate training in a relevant specialty or equivalent experience and competencies.
Desirable Criteria
  • Relevant higher degree.
Experience and Achievements
  • Demonstrated clinical experience and competence in all aspects of Stroke Medicine.
  • Ability to apply sound clinical knowledge relevant to the role.
  • Capacity to work with and lead others across professions.
Teaching and Training
  • Experience of and enthusiasm for clinical teaching of postgraduate doctors and non-medical staff.
Practical/Intellectual Skills/Personal Qualities
  • Ability to use IT systems, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Evidence of innovation and ability to think critically.
