Senior Estimator Job Description

Morson Talent is partnering with a leading defence organisation to recruit a Senior Estimator for a 12-month contract.

The successful candidate will receive a competitive hourly rate of £47 PAYE or £61.10 Umbrella.

The role offers a hybrid working arrangement, with 2 days a week spent onsite in Barrow In Furness and 3 days a week working from home.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage and compile estimates and detailed costing information as part of the Commercial function.
  • Lead and support estimating, pricing, and tendering activities across various programmes and bid activities.
  • Develop and agree costed commercial proposals with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Lead the development of costs for inclusion in proposals, including interrogation of cost submissions from functions to ensure credible and achievable price submissions.
  • Develop parametric models to advise the business on costs for new business and provide 'should cost' data for business decisions.
  • Manage the Cost & Pricing inputs for the LCM and RBA processes.
  • Deliver Cost & Pricing support to all functions.
  • Establish clear understandings with suppliers, both technical and commercial, to ensure business arrangements contain minimum risk.
  • Analyse out-turn records to enable reconciliation with the contract price.
  • Manage the costing of Contract Modification / Change Proposals.
  • Manage and advise man-hour budgeting.
  • Develop bills of materials, quantities, and norms.
  • Manage and develop customer relationships, both internal and external, and support negotiations with customers.
  • Identify and interpret customer requirements, both technical and commercial.
  • Provide advice to the business on estimating, pricing, contract terms, inflation, and variation of price issues related to bidding and performing contracts.
  • Implement procedures and controls within the specified area to ensure compliance with commercial policies.
  • Manage and resolve customer queries and issues in areas of responsibility, escalating significant problems as appropriate and highlighting trends and emerging issues.
  • Carry out pricing forecasts and analysis to propose cash flow requirements and options.
  • Manage the implementation of new systems and processes in relevant areas, ensuring uniformity of processes across the whole of cost engineering.
