Winchester, Hampshire, United Kingdom Ridge and Partners LLP Full time

Overview

Location: Winchester

This position presents a remarkable opportunity for a dedicated and enthusiastic building physics consultant to become part of a developing team in Winchester. You will engage in innovative sustainable design initiatives across various sectors, including commercial, educational, residential, industrial, logistics, automotive, and healthcare.

The ideal candidate will possess substantial experience as a Building Physics Consultant, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of thermal modeling. A background in Building Services engineering, architecture, or sustainability is preferred, along with a holistic grasp of the built environment. Accreditation as an EPC assessor is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities

Your primary focus will be to assist in the development and execution of critical work streams:

  • Compliance modeling for building regulations (Part L/EPC)
  • Analysis of thermal comfort (CIBSE Guide A, TM52, and TM59)
  • Operational energy analysis as per CIBSE TM54
  • NABERS simulations
  • Studies on passive design and low to zero carbon technologies
  • Support for net-zero operational energy assessments for both new and retrofit projects
  • Contributions to planning documents, such as energy strategies
  • Advising clients and architects on energy efficiency and conservation strategies across various building types, aiming to reduce environmental impact and carbon emissions

Required Experience and Skills

A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Architecture, or Sustainability, along with relevant practical experience in a similar capacity, is essential. You should have proven knowledge and expertise in building physics, particularly concerning heat transfer, energy efficiency, comfort criteria, and industry standards, including CIBSE Guidance.

Familiarity with dynamic simulation software, especially IES VE, and a solid understanding of UK Building Regulations, including the National Calculation Methodology, is expected. Ideally, you will be an accredited user of IESve (for SBEM and DSM), a CIBSE Low Carbon Consultant, and a Level 5 Low Carbon Energy Assessor.

Some knowledge of mechanical design would be advantageous.

There will be opportunities to broaden your experience into additional sustainability specialties, such as embodied carbon and sustainability assessment methods, should this interest you.

Given the collaborative and client-oriented nature of this role, effective communication skills and the ability to use your initiative to tackle challenges are crucial.
