About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Healthcare Solicitor to join our team at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our Legal Services Department, you will play a vital role in providing expert legal advice and support to our clinicians and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert legal advice on clinical negligence claims, inquests, and other healthcare-related matters.
  • Attend inquests and conduct advocacy on behalf of the Trust.
  • Work closely with clinicians and other stakeholders to identify and mitigate risks associated with clinical negligence claims.
  • Develop and maintain effective internal reporting systems to ensure timely and accurate reporting of claims and incidents.
  • Manage and develop the Legal Services Team, including staff development, appraisal, and performance management.
  • Provide training and support to staff on healthcare law and related matters.
  • Work closely with the Quality Team and other departments to ensure a combined approach to the management of inquests, claims, complaints, and patient safety incident response reports.
Requirements
  • Experience of working clinical negligence claims within the NHS.
  • Experience in attending inquests and conducting advocacy.
  • Experience of healthcare advisory matters, including consent, capacity, and confidentiality.
  • Previous experience of High Court matters.
  • Excellent general knowledge of clinical/medical terminology.
  • Experience of working under pressure, meeting deadlines, and managing own workload.
  • Experience of managing a large workload at a senior level without supervision.
  • Experience of working with databases and interpretation of data and report writing.
  • Proven ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • Experience of managing and developing teams.
Desirable Qualifications and Skills
  • Experience of quality management processes and quality improvement mechanisms.
  • Experience of using hospital administration and patient information systems.
  • Experience in risk management and working closely with Governance Teams.
