Position Overview

We are looking for a Speech and Language Specialist to join our dedicated team, focusing on providing essential support to educational institutions.

Key Responsibilities

The selected candidate will engage with a Primary Special school catering to children with significant learning challenges, primarily targeting those aged 4-8 years who face complex social, communication, and interaction hurdles, including autism. Additionally, there will be opportunities to collaborate with mainstream primary and secondary educational settings.

This role is particularly suited for professionals eager to enhance their specialized clinical and leadership capabilities within a supportive and innovative environment.

The ideal candidates will possess a strong motivation, a commitment to collaborative work, and experience in engaging with children and young individuals along with their families in educational contexts. They should be adaptable, innovative, and capable of functioning effectively within a team.

Job Duties

Core Responsibilities:

  • Report to the Therapies Manager
  • Contribute to the School Aged team in innovating and implementing new operational methods.
  • Ensure the service provided is cohesive, evidence-based, and responsive to the needs of the community.
  • Assess, diagnose, manage, and evaluate outcomes for children and young individuals with various speech, language, and communication challenges, some of which may be highly intricate.
  • Maintain a specialized area of interest within the clinical caseload.
  • Develop, implement, and assess specialized educational packages within the clinical framework.

Qualifications and Training

Essential:

  • Recognized qualification in Speech and Language Therapy or equivalent.
  • Health Professions Council - License to Practice.
  • Membership in the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists.

Desirable:

  • Membership in relevant Special Interest Groups.
  • Postgraduate studies or equivalent advanced short courses relevant to the field.

Experience

Essential:

  • Demonstrated post-qualification experience working with children with diverse speech, language, and communication needs.
  • Experience in collaborating with educational institutions and engaging them in interventions.
  • Experience in working collaboratively with educational staff and parents.
  • Experience in training others.

Desirable:

  • Experience in mentoring less experienced staff or students.
  • Experience in collaborating with Teaching Assistants.
