Position Overview

This role is a fixed-term engagement.

The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) is instrumental in fostering, training, and supporting top-tier researchers in health and social care.

We are in search of a Lead Programme Coordinator with expertise in research administration to oversee funding initiatives and support mechanisms aimed at enhancing research capabilities in health and care.

The Lead Programme Coordinator will collaborate with the Global Health team, taking charge of managing and executing research programs and capacity-building activities financed by the UK Official Development Assistance (ODA) budget.

The NIHR Academy Executive, which encompasses this role, has embraced a flexible working model, allowing staff to balance their time between office and remote work.

Main Responsibilities

  • Establishing funding programs, including the review or creation of guidance documentation.
  • Recruiting and overseeing Selection Committees.
  • Engaging with key professional groups and communities to address strategic needs.
  • Leading funding competitions from inception through review stages to the establishment of new contracts and ongoing management of grants.
  • Overseeing capacity-building contracts and events, providing feedback on reports related to capacity-building activities.
  • Contributing to cross-NIHR capacity enhancement initiatives, leveraging investments made in individuals funded by the NIHR.
  • Collaborating constructively to address challenges as they arise.
  • Working with communications teams to promote programs to key stakeholders, including organizing events, workshops, webinars, and networks.
  • Continuously seeking to enhance processes and awards through ongoing evaluation.
  • Staying engaged with the broader NIHR initiatives and contributing to cross-team efforts.
  • Managing team members and overseeing work responsibilities.
