Special Interests
Applicants with a specific focus in Gastroenterology, whether at a general or hepatology level, are encouraged to apply. You will typically hold clinical responsibilities for a variety of gastroenterological patients in both outpatient and inpatient settings.
Main Responsibilities
- Deliver a high-quality, comprehensive gastroenterology service within a district general hospital, including endoscopic procedures, ensuring effective prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of illnesses.
- Actively contribute to the ongoing enhancement of the gastroenterology service, aligning with national standards and NICE guidelines.
- Provide professional oversight and management of junior medical personnel, adhering to local employment and human resource policies.
- Engage in teaching, examination, and accreditation responsibilities, contributing to medical education at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Participate in medical audits and clinical effectiveness initiatives, particularly focusing on the Trust's Clinical Governance processes to promote quality and standards.

Gastroenterology Service Overview
The Gastroenterology Service provides both general and specialized outpatient and inpatient care, including diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopies. We maintain close collaborations with regional centers for advanced care, ensuring comprehensive support for our patients.
Job Plan Structure
The job plan will outline the Consultant's responsibilities and objectives for the upcoming year, covering all aspects of professional practice, including clinical duties, teaching, research, and managerial tasks. Person Specification
- Full GMC Registration with a License to Practice.
- Higher UK qualification - MRCP or equivalent recognized by the GMC.
- Demonstrated knowledge and application of current evidence-based practices.
- Proven ability to take full and independent responsibility for patient care.
- Experience in postgraduate teaching and knowledge of current trends in the specialty.
- Relevant higher degree, such as a Master's or Doctorate, or equivalent.
- Training in Thoracoscopy and pleural ultrasound.
- Subspecialty expertise within Gastroenterology.
