Job Summary:

The Detention Custody Officer is a critical role at Serco, responsible for ensuring the smooth arrival process for detainees at Yarls Wood Immigration Centre. This position requires a high level of communication skills, empathy, and attention to detail to provide a supportive and respectful environment for detainees.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and promote on-site services, including healthcare, welfare, faith and cultural provisions, education, and recreation activities.
  • Form supportive and appropriate relationships with detainees throughout their detention.
  • Ensure detainees access the support they need throughout their detention.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to maintain a safe and secure environment.
  • Participate in training and development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.

Requirements:

  • Reasonable fitness level.
  • Good educational level of English and Maths.
  • Ability to work varied shift patterns, including night shifts and weekends.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing situations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
