Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to support the mental health needs of our students. As a key member of our team, you will work closely with our educational and support staff to create a safe and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct support to students with mental health needs, both individually and in groups, to promote their emotional wellbeing and academic success.
  • Collaborate with teachers, counsellors, and other staff to identify and address student mental health concerns, developing and implementing individualised support plans as needed.
  • Support classroom activities and facilitate a positive learning environment, promoting a culture of respect, empathy, and inclusivity.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of student interactions and progress, ensuring that all information is up-to-date and securely stored.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay informed about best practices in mental health support, enhancing your skills and knowledge to provide the highest level of care.
Requirements:
  • Previous experience in a similar role or relevant experience working with children or adults with mental health difficulties.
  • Knowledge of mental health issues and strategies for support, including a strong understanding of the impact of trauma and adversity on student wellbeing.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, staff, and parents.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team, prioritising student needs and contributing to a positive and supportive school culture.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting young people, with a commitment to promoting their emotional wellbeing and academic success.
