About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Curator to join our team at the National Museum of the Royal Navy. As a Principal Curator, you will be responsible for the acquisition, conservation, and interpretation of the museum's modern and contemporary collections.

Working closely with colleagues and serving members of the Royal Navy, you will proactively seek to capture and curate objects and stories that reflect the diversity and innovation of the modern and contemporary Royal Navy. With confidence, you will be the voice of authority for the business on the modern and contemporary Navy, sharing your knowledge and expertise in person and through multiple digital platforms.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Lead the planning and interpretation of the Royal Navy's modern and contemporary stories, especially that of the Royal Marines as part of the Boathouse 6 reinvigoration project.
  2. Contribute knowledge and expertise on the modern and contemporary Royal Navy to our digital engagement, future adult programming, and STEM activities.
  3. Work with the wider Collections team to create a single coherent collection, following the Collection Development Policy and filling gaps in the collection around the modern and contemporary Royal Navy.
  4. Develop and deliver heritage projects that showcase the modern and contemporary Royal Navy's history and significance.
  5. Collaborate with external organizations to develop projects and partnerships that benefit the museum and the Royal Navy.
