Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant in Clinical Biochemistry and Metabolic Medicine to join our team at University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide expert clinical care to patients with lipid disorders, contributing to the provision of specialist lipidology services.
  • Lead a tertiary centre adult hypertension clinic, utilizing extensive experience and skills in patient management.
  • Contribute to ongoing clinical trial work, including recruiting participants and securing future clinical trial opportunities.
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase the academic profile of the department, promoting research and innovation.
  • Teach and train medical students, specialist registrars, and clinical scientists, fostering a culture of excellence in education and training.
Requirements
  • Full and specialist registration in Chemical Pathology with the General Medical Council (GMC) or eligibility for specialist registration within six months of interview.
  • FRCPath in Chemical Pathology or equivalent qualification.
  • MRCP or other higher specialist medical degree.
  • CCT in Chemical Pathology with Metabolic Medicine.
  • Thorough and broad training and experience in Clinical Biochemistry, with expertise in lipidology and hypertension.
  • Ability to take responsibility for delivering services without direct supervision, with evidence of leadership and management skills.
  • Participation in continuing professional development (CPD) schemes, with a strong commitment to staying up-to-date with the latest clinical knowledge and research.
Desirable Qualities
  • Experience as a clinical trial sub-investigator or principal investigator, with a strong understanding of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and research governance.
  • Evidence of peer-reviewed research output, including publications in the field of lipidology.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, relatives, clinical colleagues, support staff, and other stakeholders, with strong interpersonal and team working skills.
  • Flexibility and willingness to travel to and work in other sites, as necessitated by the role.
