We are currently seeking a proficient Asphalt Paving Technician to become a part of our welcoming team located at Tarmac Birtley. Our teams operate throughout the North East, Yorkshire, and Lancashire, making this position easily accessible from various nearby regions.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the Foreman, you will be an integral member of an asphalt laying crew, engaged in a range of projects including highways, airstrips, new roadway constructions, municipal streetworks, and private sector developments. Previous experience in similar roles is advantageous. Your responsibilities as a skilled Asphalt Paving Technician will encompass daily operations as outlined in the work schedule, ensuring adherence to Health and Safety regulations while fulfilling project requirements. Maintaining high standards of cleanliness and organization in your work area will also be essential.

The successful candidate in the role of skilled Asphalt Paving Technician will focus on operational duties that include:

  • Handling asphalt on-site and operating machinery (such as pavers, heavy rollers, and JCB 2CXs), for which appropriate competency certifications are required.
  • Conducting routine maintenance and upholding exemplary housekeeping standards.
  • Promoting a culture of safety and zero harm.
  • Ensuring compliance with Health and Safety protocols on-site.

Ideal Candidate Profile

As a member of our operational team, you, as a skilled Asphalt Paving Technician, should demonstrate a solid background in a similar field. Additionally, you will:

  • Possess experience in road surfacing, particularly with asphalt, although specific product knowledge is not mandatory.
  • Exhibit flexibility and self-motivation to achieve success.
  • Work effectively within a team and inspire others.
  • Have familiarity with Risk Assessments.
  • Understand SSOW (HIRA) and Permit systems (preferred but not essential).
  • Adhere to and engage with company policies, objectives, and standards.
  • Be IT literate (preferred but not essential).
  • Be willing to work varying shifts, including nights and weekends.
