Role Summary:

The Test and Defect Manager plays a crucial role in managing the testing and defect resolution processes throughout the software development lifecycle. This position requires coordination with various stakeholders to ensure that software applications adhere to the necessary quality benchmarks and are devoid of defects. The Test and Defect Manager will spearhead test planning, execution, and defect resolution initiatives, guaranteeing the timely delivery of superior software.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Formulate and execute testing strategies, plans, and processes to assure software quality.
  • Establish and oversee test environments, tools, and data requirements.
  • Collaborate with project teams to comprehend testing needs, timelines, and objectives.
  • Develop test schedules, identifying dependencies, risks, and resource requirements.
  • Manage and coordinate the execution of test cases across various platforms (e.g., functional, non-functional, regression, integration, UAT).
  • Ensure testing is performed in accordance with industry best practices, encompassing both manual and automated testing methodologies.
  • Document all tests appropriately and ensure accurate recording of test results.
  • Implement and maintain defect tracking processes and tools for effective defect management across all projects.
  • Facilitate defect triage meetings, ensuring proper prioritization and assignment of defects for resolution.
  • Monitor and report defect status and resolution progress to stakeholders.
  • Conduct root cause analyses for critical defects and implement preventive measures.
  • Collaborate with development, product management, and operations teams to ensure prompt resolution of issues.
  • Provide regular status updates, highlighting testing progress, defect trends, and potential project delivery risks.
  • Keep key stakeholders informed of critical issues affecting software quality.
  • Identify opportunities for enhancement in testing and defect management processes and implement changes to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Stay informed about industry trends and emerging testing methodologies, integrating them into the organization's QA practices.
  • Mentor and guide QA/Test Engineers to cultivate a culture of continuous improvement and high-quality software delivery.
  • Oversee the implementation and utilization of test management and defect tracking tools (e.g., JIRA, HP ALM, Selenium).
  • Ensure effective use of automation frameworks to enhance testing efficiency and minimize manual effort.
  • Work closely with the automation team to pinpoint areas for automated testing and incorporate them into the overall test strategy.
  • Identify and manage risks associated with testing and defect management, ensuring appropriate mitigation strategies are in place.
  • Escalate any critical testing or defect issues that may impact project timelines or quality to senior management.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in software testing, focusing on test management and defect tracking.
  • Demonstrated experience leading testing efforts for large-scale software development initiatives.
  • Strong grasp of SDLC, Agile, and Waterfall methodologies.
  • Hands-on experience with test management and defect tracking tools (e.g., JIRA, HP ALM, TestRail).
  • Experience with both manual and automated testing techniques.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Solid understanding of software testing best practices, including functional, non-functional, and regression testing.
  • Knowledge of automation tools and frameworks (e.g., Selenium, Cucumber).
