Job Title: Litigation and Regulatory Solicitor/Barrister

Job Summary:

We are seeking a qualified Solicitor or Barrister to join our team at Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in litigation and regulatory law, with experience in providing legal advice and advocacy in the Magistrates Court and Crown Court.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide legal advice and research to support the Council's functions, including Regulatory Services, Highways and Public Health, Town and Country Planning, Trading Standards, Environment, Social Services, Debt Recovery, Council Tax, Finance, Education, Corporate Matters, and Crime and Disorder.
• Advocate in the Magistrates Court and Crown Court, with a focus on contentious and litigious matters.
• Support the Principal Solicitor Litigation in providing legal services to Members and Officers of the Council.
• Work collaboratively with senior managers and partner organisations to achieve the Council's objectives.
• Develop and maintain a strong understanding of the Council's policies and procedures, as well as relevant legislation and case law.

Requirements:

• Qualified Solicitor or Barrister with a proven track record in litigation and regulatory law.
• Higher Rights of Audience - Criminal Law desirable, but not essential.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage and prioritize large workloads.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with senior managers and partner organisations.
• Good IT skills, with experience of using case management systems and other legal software.
• Ability to work in an agile environment, with a focus on delivering high-quality results in a fast-paced environment.
