Job Summary

This is a high-profile role within the Welsh Government, focusing on the expansion of the education workforce who can teach and work through the Welsh language. The successful candidate will work closely with the head of branch to implement and monitor the Programme for Government commitment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement policies to increase the number of teachers, headteachers, and classroom assistants who can teach through the medium of Welsh.
  • Collaborate with the Initial Teacher Education Branch and external stakeholders to increase the number of Inuit teachers, including projects with the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol.
  • Work with schools to deliver the Welsh in Education Teacher Retention Bursary, the Cynllun Pontio, and the Welsh-medium capacity grant to increase the number of Welsh-medium teachers.
  • Support leaders to develop their skills to lead schools successfully, enabling learners to achieve all four purposes.
  • Lead the effective delivery of Government business, including preparing and drafting correspondence, Ministerial briefing, diary cases, and assembly questions for senior management.
  • Line manage one member of staff at MB2 level, ensuring effective performance through support and supervision.
