Position Overview
Global Energy Group is seeking a dedicated Lead Ecologist to enhance our dynamic team. As we expand our project portfolio, this role presents a unique opportunity for a passionate professional to advance their career while gaining invaluable experience across various sectors, including infrastructure, industrial, and commercial.

Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Developing and executing Risk Assessments and Ecological Survey Method Statements.
  • Planning, implementing, and overseeing ecological surveys and assessments.
  • Managing site teams effectively.
  • Assisting in the preparation of fee proposals.
  • Producing high-quality ecological reports and working method statements.
  • Handling protected species licence applications and Species Protection Plans.
  • Providing Ecological Clerk of Works and site supervision.
  • Mentoring junior staff members.
  • Overseeing project management and budget allocation.

Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, preferably within an environmental consultancy.
  • A degree in Ecology or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in protected species surveying, Phase 1 habitat surveying, and ecological assessments.
  • Experience with protected species licence applications.
  • In-depth knowledge of ecology, relevant legislation, survey techniques, and mitigation strategies, along with a commitment to staying updated on best practices and emerging technologies.
  • A valid UK driving licence.
  • Membership in a relevant professional institution, such as CIEEM.

Desirable Qualifications
Additional qualifications that would be advantageous include:

  • Protected Species licence holder (preferably a Bat licence).
  • Experience with HRA and Biodiversity Net Gain.
  • Familiarity with rail network projects.
  • GIS knowledge and experience.
  • Access to a personal vehicle.
