Job Title: Apprentice Process Engineer

About the Role:

We are seeking an Apprentice Process Engineer to join our team at Norsk Hydro. As an Apprentice Process Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting our production, production engineering, and maintenance teams. Your primary objective will be to achieve ongoing improvements in Health & Safety, Productivity, Quality, and Reliability/Repeatability, thereby reducing plant costs.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead and participate in improvement teams to provide technical input and problem-solving support.
  2. Assist Department Managers in analyzing production/quality data to identify priority projects.
  3. Identify and lead improvement projects using LEAN tools to achieve defined objectives.
  4. Develop ongoing training in consultation with the Extrusion Manager to become an expert in the field of extrusion and related disciplines.
  5. Assist with pricing, capacity, and capability information during the preparation of tenders.
  6. Provide input at the design stage of new projects to ensure optimum design for manufacture.
  7. Process design and management for new projects.
  8. Specification and procurement of internal production equipment.
  9. Management of the delivery, installation, and commissioning of new internal production equipment.
  10. Training of production personnel in the use of new equipment.
  11. Specification of preventative maintenance procedures for production equipment.
  12. Provide support on technical issues relating to all internal production equipment throughout the life of a project.
  13. Identify areas for improvement and justify and action suitable improvements.
  14. Assist with the design and implementation of plant layouts.
  15. Concept design and sourcing of packaging for transportation of components and finished parts.
  16. Assist with the specification and procurement of production handling equipment.
  17. Coordinate Process FMEA's and involvement in Design FMEA's.
  18. Deputize for Department Managers as appropriate once having gained sufficient knowledge and experience.
  19. Promote EBS practices and philosophy across the organization.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.
  • Familiarity with process control.
  • Excellent written and oral skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
