Learning Support Mentor Opportunity

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Learning Support Mentor to join our team at a secondary school in Parkstone, Poole. As a Learning Support Mentor, you will play a vital role in supporting students with additional educational needs, helping them to overcome barriers to learning and thrive academically and emotionally.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Provide academic and pastoral support to students identified with additional educational needs, working closely with teachers, parents, and support staff to ensure continuity and progress.
  • Offer general support to students in lessons and the Student Support Room, establishing positive relationships and maintaining high expectations for their progress and behaviour.
  • Develop an understanding of students' specific needs, working closely with the SEND and Pastoral Teams, Teachers, and external agencies to facilitate inclusion and support interaction among peers.
  • Encourage positive reinforcement, praise, and rewards to motivate students, serving as a positive role model in behaviour, control, and resilience.
Requirements:
  • Passion for working with children with special educational needs in a secondary school setting, with a genuine interest in student welfare, particularly for those facing learning challenges.
  • An understanding of how children learn and behave, with a commitment to supporting their development and adhering to safeguarding protocols.
  • Respect professional confidentiality and be proactive in attending relevant training and meetings to stay up to date with developments in special educational needs.
