Our team is based at the Culham Campus in Oxfordshire, where we have established a pilot line and are currently building our team. At INITION, we foster a collaborative environment with minimal hierarchy, working together towards a common goal of making battery production sustainable.
About the Role
This is a unique opportunity to take a lead in driving technology that will revolutionize the entire battery industry. As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing mechanical upgrades, managing fabrication, installation, and testing of all upgrades, and leading the design and build of next-generation machinery.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop mechanical upgrades to improve the efficiency and performance of our battery production technology.
- Take ownership of a subsystem of the technology, ensuring its smooth operation and continuous improvement.
- Manage the fabrication, installation, and testing of all upgrades, ensuring timely completion and quality standards.
- Lead the design and build of next-generation machinery, collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive innovation.
- Evaluate the impact of design changes on quality and performance, making data-driven decisions to optimize the technology.
Requirements
- 5+ years of industry or lab experience (fewer for candidates with an advanced degree).
- Background in Mechanical Engineering, with a bias towards fabrication or product design.
- Knowledge of GD&T and CAD skills, specifically SolidWorks, with experience in 3-D design at component and assembly level, combined with the generation of 2-D manufacturing drawings.
- Track record of successful R&D achievements, demonstrated through innovative designs and/or a patent portfolio.
- Well-organized and pragmatic approach to problem-solving, with attention to detail and exceptional communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to quickly master new technologies and independently drive improvement with minimal supervision.
- Strong data-driven experimental design skills and analytical ability to evaluate performance from first-principles.
- Experience with control systems, automation, and mechatronics is a bonus.
