Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Proposal Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing concept designs, estimating costs, and writing proposals to support our technical solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Concept Design:
    • Develop concept designs for small commercial projects, including layout and equipment, to be used for estimating costs and included in sales proposals.
    • Develop concept layout designs for larger commercial projects, including 2D and/or 3D designs, to be used for estimating costs and included in sales proposals.
    • Source equipment from OEM suppliers, including individual components used in equipment design.
    • Develop alternative solutions after consultation with Technical Solutions Manager or senior management.
    • Coordinate design review with management upon completion of concept design.
  • Estimating:
    • Validate the technical aspects of projects, including project schedule, high elevation drive calculations, cycle times, and overall performance of equipment.
    • Complete estimate costs for small commercial projects less than £250K using the estimate template.
    • Complete estimate costs for individual bespoke equipment to be included within a large commercial project using the estimating template.
    • Estimate equipment costs using the latest component costs, ensuring the estimate sheet is updated with current rates and costs associated directly with the timing plan and/or delivery schedule to the customer.
    • Ensure all information supplied to external suppliers is the same and all receive the same information, which could be via a RFQ associated with the enquiry.
  • Proposal Writing:
    • Write proposals or letters of offer using the current template.
    • Proposals must demonstrate a solution, including external supplier content, and be in line with customers' requirements.
    • Proposals must demonstrate how we will install and control the delivery and installation of the project.
    • Proposals must include any caveats, exclusions, final acceptance, on-site safety, final documentation, Terms & Conditions, etc.
  • Customer Communication:
    • Follow up on any sales leads that are received and assigned by management.
    • Attend customer meetings (via virtual methods or on-site) to determine the scope of the project and review RFQ.
    • Correspond with customers to clarify any questions about potential projects, enquiries, or RFQ, including project dates or any other issues that could affect project costs and delivery.
    • Communicate to Technical Solutions Manager or senior management, the scope of potential projects, deadlines, equipment selection, and other criteria associated with potential projects.
  • Position Requirements:
    • Fluent in English, both written and oral.
    • Minimum 2 years' experience in Material Handling (Logistics & Warehousing, Automotive) engineering.
    • Strong technical background in either mechanical and/or electrical/controls engineering.
    • Strong CAD/Inventor/Solidworks or similar software experience.
    • Practical knowledge of equipment design, logistics warehousing, conveyors, automation, and/or practical knowledge of electrical/controls.
