Position Details

This position is central to the national security, foreign policy, and defense sectors within the government. We are seeking one Higher Executive Officer (HEO) to join the Strategy Unit on a two-year secondment, primarily engaging with the Strategy Implementation team. The main responsibility is to assess and report on the UK's progress in achieving the objectives outlined in the national security strategy. This involves collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders, including government departments, Parliament, and academic institutions.

Your Responsibilities

  • Enhance the monitoring and execution of foreign, security, defense, and development policies through effective project and program management techniques, facilitating feedback across departments.
  • Oversee segments of the annual evaluation of government performance in relation to the national security strategy.
  • Manage all Freedom of Information requests and Parliamentary Questions for the Cabinet Office.
  • Support the Cabinet Office's reporting to senior government officials regarding our performance metrics.
  • Assist National Security Councils and officials by developing and curating evidence packages from relevant data analysis centers.
  • Engage with think tanks and academic experts to integrate fresh ideas into the policy-making process.
  • Contribute to the broader objectives of the Strategy Unit and the National Security Adviser as needed.
  • Participate actively in fostering a positive and inclusive culture within the Strategy Unit.

Candidate Profile

Additional Information

Employees are expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working hours at their primary workplace, with travel for official duties counted towards this requirement.
