Position: Ultra Low Latency Systems Engineer

Location: Global

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled and highly motivated Ultra Low Latency Systems Engineer to deliver solutions across our global colocation (COLOs) estate, which consists of over 400 servers distributed across more than 22 global locations. The selected candidate will be responsible for project execution, support escalations, monitoring, automation, security, documentation, and capacity management for our low latency infrastructure. This role will involve collaboration with business partners, application owners, clients, vendors, and internal teams (SRE, Network, Application Support, Application Development, Quants, etc.) to provide comprehensive end-to-end solutions in a timely manner.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement systems based on Linux (CentOS and Rocky), driven by requirements and developed standards to ensure consistency across 400+ servers in 22 locations.
  • As part of a global team, manage daily requests, services, and processes to maintain a reliable environment by implementing automation, optimization, and continuous service enhancement whenever possible for exceptional service performance.
  • Collaborate with various teams and stakeholders to establish and launch new colocation sites worldwide.
  • Proactively automate routine tasks and advocate for the practice of Infrastructure as Code.
  • Continuously enhance the Linux server infrastructure by optimizing workflows and processes.

Qualifications/Skills Required:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working with Linux (RHEL/CentOS/Rocky preferred) in a large complex or specialized environment, focusing on operations, systems engineering, and systems performance.
  • Proficient in server management and support for HP, SuperMicro, Dell, and various overclock servers.
  • Experience with low latency network interfaces and kernel bypass (configuration and optimization): Solarflare with onload, Mellanox with VMA.
  • Expertise in system hardware/OS tuning and performance troubleshooting, with a solid understanding of CPU architectures.
  • Familiarity with build and configuration management tools, specifically Chef or Ansible.
  • Experience with observability tools, particularly Grafana and Prometheus.
  • Highly motivated with strong skills in scripting and automation using Python, Ruby, and Bash.
  • In-depth knowledge of server network stack configuration, tuning, and troubleshooting, including TCP, UDP (unicast/multicast), NTP, PTP, and wireshark/tshark.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities to address troubleshooting challenges.
  • Well-organized, proactive, resourceful, and capable of thriving in a fast-paced environment, with a questioning mindset and a sense of accountability.
  • Good understanding of trading venues such as Nasdaq, LSE, Euronext, etc.
  • Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
