About the Role

The Data Protection Manager will play a critical role in supporting QinetiQ in understanding and discharging their data protection obligations. This includes leading the management of QinetiQ's record of processing, portfolio of privacy impact assessments, and supporting procurement and commercial teams by undertaking due diligence on suppliers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert advice on data protection policy, process, and compliance.
  • Manage QinetiQ's group companies' records of processing, ensuring all processing activities are documented, up-to-date, and reviewed regularly.
  • Undertake legitimate interest assessments and data protection impact assessments to ensure compliance with data protection legislation.
  • Manage data subject access requests and discharge them accordingly within statutory timescales.
  • Monitor developments in data protection law and good practice, identifying opportunities for improvement in company policy and process.
  • Conduct investigations following data breaches and incidents, offering containment advice and advice to mitigate risk in future.
Requirements
  • Demonstrable experience as a data protection officer in a listed or large company.
  • Extensive experience with engagement with regulators.
  • Experience of data protection act 2018 compliance, particularly advising on security services and law enforcement.
  • Knowledge of data protection legislation in other countries, such as Canada, US, and Australia, would be advantageous.
Qualifications
  • Certified information privacy professional (CIPP) or equivalent qualification in data protection.
