We are seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Technician to become a vital part of our team at Tarmac Ashbury Asphalt Plant, supporting our operations across the North West of England. This position involves a 48-hour work week from Monday to Friday, with opportunities for overtime during weekends and night shifts.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the Asphalt Plant Manager, the Mechanical Maintenance Technician plays a crucial role in our 24/7 engineering operations.

As a Mechanical Maintenance Technician, your responsibilities will include:

Performing scheduled and reactive mechanical maintenance tasks to ensure optimal plant performance and support production goals. Completing tasks efficiently, leading mechanical repairs and planned maintenance to enhance plant reliability and minimize downtime. Managing small-scale projects with a proactive and cost-effective approach. Collaborating with contractors and suppliers during their site visits. Engaging in root cause analysis to eliminate recurring issues and contributing to the continuous improvement of engineering practices. Utilizing risk assessments and method statements in your work. Assisting in the development of safe working methods for repair tasks. Upholding Health & Safety regulations and adhering to company protocols. Identifying and reporting unsafe conditions and practices. Using the computerized maintenance management system to document all maintenance activities, including fault descriptions and repairs.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate for the Mechanical Maintenance Technician position will be self-driven, enthusiastic, and capable of working independently. Proven experience in an industrial or factory setting is essential.

Suitable candidates will possess:

A recognized apprenticeship (preferably at a higher level). ONC/HNC qualifications (desirable but not mandatory). A solid background in mechanical systems, preferably in heavy industry, including conveyors, motors, pumps, and gearboxes. Strong fault-finding skills to identify issues and recommend solutions. Proficiency in bearing removal and installation, along with welding and fabrication skills. The ability to perform emergency repairs efficiently on all production equipment. IT literacy, including proficiency in common applications and company systems. An understanding of SHE risks and the ability to manage them effectively. Familiarity with site-specific SHE procedures and safe working practices.
