Main Responsibilities:
  1. Operate the glass grinding and furnace plant, ensuring all quality and safety procedures are adhered to.
  2. Responsible for grains and furnace quality, ensuring the highest standards are met.
  3. Carry out pre-use checks on equipment and machinery, ensuring they are in good working order.
  4. Maintain good housekeeping on site, ensuring a safe and clean working environment.
  5. Problem solve and deal with issues on a day-to-day basis, using excellent communication and leadership skills.
  6. Have full control of the site during out-of-office hours, ensuring all procedures are followed.
  7. Ensure the plant is operated in line with safety, environmental, and quality organisational and site-specific rules and procedures.
  8. Hands-on running of the furnace plant, ensuring all quality and safety procedures are adhered to.
  9. Organise team members as per the needs of the plant, ensuring all tasks are completed efficiently.
  10. Complete furnace reports on a daily basis, providing accurate and detailed information.
  11. Correct material recipes during out-of-hours, ensuring the highest quality standards are met.
  12. Focus on furnace efficiency and quality, ensuring the plant is running at optimal levels.
  13. Complete glass gradation checks and interpret information, ensuring all quality standards are met.
  14. Carry out rotex maintenance, ensuring all equipment is in good working order.
  15. Prepare and complete regular handovers with other Shift Leaders, ensuring all information is shared.
  16. Schedule and assist in routine downtime tasks, ensuring all tasks are completed efficiently.
  17. Provide practical training to team members, ensuring they have the necessary skills and knowledge.
  18. Be involved in interview and candidate selection, ensuring the best candidates are selected for the role.
  19. Responsible for safe opening and closing of site for weekend and shutdowns, ensuring all procedures are followed.
  20. Carry out any other reasonable duties as requested, ensuring the highest standards are met.
Requirements:
  1. NVQ level 3 shift leader/team leader qualification or equivalent, preferred but not essential.
  2. Counterbalance forklift licence.
  3. Experience of operating a front-loading shovel preferred but not essential.
  4. Basic Health & Safety qualification/training preferred but not essential.
  5. 3 years' experience in a leadership role within a similar environment preferred but not essential.
  6. Good organisation skills and attention to detail.
  7. Basic computing skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office e.g. Outlook, Excel etc.
  8. Hold a clean, valid driving licence (Car).
  9. Good problem-solving skills.
  10. Strong leader.
  11. Proactive and ability to work on their own.
  12. Good communication skills.
  13. Hardworking and driven with a focus on continual improvement.
  14. Ability to cope effectively under pressure.
  15. Good sickness, timekeeping, and disciplinary record.
  16. Healthy and physically fit.
  17. Must be able to deal with pressure and demands of the role.

Salary is £34,444 (£16.55 P/H). Recruitment will follow the path of: 16 weeks via agency, then a 9-month fixed-term contract directly with the employer, and finally offered a full-time contract.

Working a 40-hour week on a 3-shift pattern: 7am-3pm Days, 3pm-11pm Afternoons, 11pm-7am Nights. Monday to Friday; however, this may vary.
