Job Title: Assistant Solicitor - Hybrid Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Assistant Solicitor to join our team in Berkshire. As a hybrid role, you will have the opportunity to work in our office and also have the flexibility to work from home.

About the Role:

This is a fee-earning role that involves working in the Criminal Department of our client, a congenial and supportive firm of medium-sized solicitors. You will be responsible for covering court attendances, managing case files, and providing advice and assistance to clients.

Responsibilities:
  • Covering court attendances in Berkshire, West London, and Thames Valley
  • Managing case files in accordance with Quality Assurance Standards
  • Providing advice and assistance to clients at a Police Station, by telephone and/or in person
  • Attending upon clients, witnesses, and experts to obtain relevant statements or opinions
  • Communicating with clients and other parties by email, letter, telephone, and in person
  • Arranging for attendances upon and assisting Counsel, clients, and witnesses at Court hearings and case conferences
  • Participating in Duty Solicitor Schemes and providing advice and assistance in accordance with the Duty Solicitor arrangements
  • Carrying out the correct preparation for all hearings, pleas, and trials
  • Ensuring that proofs of evidence, observations on evidence, and witness statements are taken and prepared promptly
  • Delegating and supervising work undertaken by support staff
  • Advising on appeals and lodging appeals as necessary
  • Carrying out advocacy in the Magistrates Court and Crown Court
Requirements:
  • Degree or recognised diploma
  • Pass or above of the Legal Practice Course or Law Society Finals
  • Valid current Law Society Practising Certificate
  • Eligibility or membership of local Court and Police Station Duty Solicitors Schemes
  • Excellent advocacy, oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to work to set deadlines and decide and act upon priorities of work
  • Ability to get on with people and motivate others
  • File management skills
  • Financial management
