Job Title: Principal Structural Engineer

Location: Flexible working arrangements available, including hybrid and remote options

Salary: Competitive and commensurate with experience

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Lead the analysis and design of complex steel structures using Eurocodes, British Standards, and BAE Systems' standards to support submarine build.
  2. Utilize expertise in specific regulations and requirements beyond those used within BAE Systems, including LOLER, codes of compliance, weld specifications, and geometric tolerance.
  3. Responsible for interpreting and competent in computer-based analytical techniques, including finite element analysis, CAD modeling, and engineering schematics (Abaqus, S-Frame).
  4. Support the manufacturing, assembly, lifting, handling, and installation processes of Submarine Structures, Modules, and Components.
  5. Contribute to the production of concept drawings, layouts, and other technical outputs consistent with contractual requirements to meet target dates and budget demands.
  6. Responsible for approvals, checking analysis, and outputs.
Requirements:
  1. Engineering degree (BEng/MEng) or equivalent experience.
  2. Civil/Mechanical/Structural-based and Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status nearing CEng status.
  3. Expertise in structural steel analysis and design.
  4. Fully conversant in the use of Eurocodes and British Standards.
  5. Competent in reviewing and checking design outputs.
  6. Good understanding of mechanical engineering, structural steelwork, knowledge of lifting handling, and LOLER.
  7. Working knowledge of ABAQUS (Software), S-Frame Foran, MathCAD, and Excel.
  8. Previous knowledge in a production environment, with experience in a marine production environment advantageous.

About the Team:

As a Principal Engineer, you will work with a dual-function team (design and engineers) consisting of 14 people at various seniority levels. The team is responsible for engineering assessments of designs in support of build. Collaborate with design to produce equipment and/or support operation in production to produce safety-critical equipment. BAE Systems offers relocation support packages across all Submarines roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.
