Overview

As a Conservation Ranger, you embody the essence of the National Trust, dedicated to preserving the natural beauty of the landscapes we safeguard. Your role is pivotal in championing environmental conservation and promoting outdoor activities, ensuring that our cherished countryside and coastal areas remain vibrant for both wildlife and the public.

Your primary responsibilities will include leading hands-on initiatives to shape ecosystems and protect natural environments, facilitating public access, maintaining estate features, and upholding the presentation of our sites to the highest standards. This entails organizing and caring for the tools, vehicles, and equipment necessary for practical tasks.

Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week. Flexibility to work on weekends, public holidays, and evenings, along with being on call, is expected.

Compensation: £23,868 per annum

Work Environment

This position will encompass various sites within the Derwent, Wear, and Durham Coast portfolio, including diverse locations.

Key Responsibilities

You will play a vital role in the protection and stewardship of habitats, wildlife, structures, and equipment. Your enthusiasm and knowledge will inspire others to appreciate and care for these areas. Effective communication and administrative tasks related to volunteer engagement will be crucial.

Developing visitor experiences is an integral part of this role, and we aim to enhance our offerings for education and engagement. At a minimum, you will utilize your respected position to interact with members and address visitor inquiries while present at your designated sites.

Ensuring that conservation efforts and outdoor experiences on the land you oversee meet the highest standards is essential. Monitoring land conditions is a critical aspect of management, and we increasingly employ GIS and digital tools for ecological documentation, condition assessments, and estate upkeep.

You will foster relationships within the local community, proudly representing the Trust and sharing insights about the work you and your team are undertaking.

  • Knowledgeable in land management, access, and conservation practices, with a preference for outdoor work.
  • Proficient in operating machinery and equipment, holding relevant certifications.
  • A licensed driver with a full UK driving license. Note: Access to personal transportation is required for this role, with full travel expenses reimbursed.
