Position Overview

We are excited to announce an opportunity for a Junior Plumbing Technician to become a vital part of our Estates Team at Bedfordshire Hospitals. In this role, you will actively assist in the maintenance and repair of mechanical systems while also engaging in educational training at a local institution once a week to enhance your knowledge in Mechanical Engineering.

This apprenticeship will focus on the following skill set - Level 3 Installation and Maintenance Plumber.

Compensation Structure

The starting salary for this apprenticeship is structured as follows:

Band 3 - Year 1 Starting, Year 2 Incremental, Year 3 Top step point.

The apprentice wage will see annual increases or adjustments upon the successful completion of designated stages.

The position entails a commitment of hours per week under an initial 48 Month Fixed Term Contract, accompanied by Annual Leave and participation in the NHS pension scheme.

Job Duties

1. Learn to identify, diagnose, and resolve faults, performing repairs and planned maintenance on mechanical services, equipment, and systems, including but not limited to heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and drainage systems.

2. Gain knowledge of reactive and planned maintenance processes for complex building engineering services related to the core skills of the position.

3. Complete all mandatory training as required.

4. Familiarize yourself with existing and new installations, commissioning, and testing new work related to core skills. Support team members in other areas as needed.

5. Assist and communicate with clinical staff to coordinate equipment and plant maintenance.

6. Learn to work safely on heating, cooling, and water services, ensuring compliance with all statutory regulations and health and safety legislation, progressing towards becoming a Competent Person for Trust properties.

7. Conduct periodic checks, servicing, and testing of equipment in line with planned maintenance schedules.
