We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Built Heritage Specialist to join our team at Essex County Council. As a Built Heritage Specialist, you will contribute to the effective technical delivery of our built heritage specialism, providing conservation advice to local planning authorities and undertaking a diverse range of project work.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide conservation advice to local planning authorities through written responses and meetings, including on-site and virtual meetings.
- Produce conservation area appraisals and design guidance.
- Collaborate with our archaeological specialists and joint working with our Natural and Built Environment teams.
- Contribute to Built Heritage Statements and Conservation Management Plans.
- Undertake a diverse range of project work.
- Full UK driving license and access to a car for regular use, or the ability to meet the mobility requirements of the role by another means.
- Postgraduate level education in building conservation or a related discipline, with demonstrable professional experience, or degree level education in building conservation or a related discipline with significant built heritage experience.
- Full membership of the Institute of Historic Building Conservation (IHBC) or working towards it.
- A minimum of two years relevant work experience as a built heritage specialist in the private or public sector.
- Good knowledge of guidance, legislation, and planning policy pertaining to the historic environment.
- Good level of technical experience and knowledge of building conservation/historic buildings, including site analysis, researching, and preparing evidence base reports.
- Good written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and presentation, allied with confident and professional interpersonal skills.
- Good project management skills, including ability to prioritize work while maintaining focus on key projects or activities within tightly defined timescales.
