CNC Operator - Qualifications

Experience with 3, 4, and 5 Axis machinery
Essential medium to heavy engineering background
Engineering apprenticeship is preferred but not mandatory
Proven engineering experience
Familiarity with Mazak or Fanuc controls is advantageous
Solid understanding of engineering principles and methodologies
Basic computer skills, with the ability to navigate directory structures and network drives
Familiarity with CMM software is a plus
Logical problem-solving skills
Commitment to the role and a proactive approach
A strong sense of urgency

CNC Operator - Key Responsibilities

- Set up and operate 3, 4, and 5 axis vertical milling machines as required.
- Prove out jobs to ensure first-off quality.
- Ensure machines are set and running efficiently, producing quality components as per specifications.
- Operate milling machines post-setup, maintaining quality throughout production runs.
- Interpret engineering drawings to ensure all machined parts meet specifications.
- Calculate dimensions and tolerances using mathematical knowledge and precision instruments to monitor machine speeds and feeds.
- Adjust controls to regulate machining processes or input commands to manage CNC controls.
- Select appropriate tools, equipment, and materials for machining tasks.
- Ensure tooling, fixtures, and relevant information are prepared and available as needed.
- Identify and communicate any engineering issues to relevant personnel (Team Leaders, Production Planner, Maintenance & Engineering Departments).
- Conduct routine machine maintenance as necessary, potentially operating multiple machines.
- Verify manufactured parts for compliance with engineering drawings.
- Operate CNC CMM machines, following established programs.
- Utilize a Manual CMM machine to ensure drawing compliance.
- Adhere to health and safety guidelines in accordance with company policy.
- Ensure a safe working environment for oneself and colleagues.
- Comply with all relevant health and safety policies and procedures.
- Maintain 5S, TPM, and other operational programs in the machine shop.
- Assist in troubleshooting any emerging issues.
- Communicate any concerns through appropriate channels to engineering and technical departments.
- Identify and implement manufacturing improvements and procedures.
- Ensure that any method enhancements are communicated effectively.
