About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Reinsurance Specialist to join our team at Markel International Services Ltd. As a key member of our Reinsurance team, you will play a critical role in the administration of our ceded reinsurance programmes, post placement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create reinsurance risks using our systems, ensuring policy terms are accurately recorded and maintained.
  • Ensure reinsurance premium and related expenses are correctly booked, advised, and settled under contractual terms.
  • Ensure the timely and accurate calculation and issuance of reinsurance recoveries for both paid claims and outstanding reserves, responding to any query within five working days of receipt.
  • Develop strong relationships with team members across the business as well as externally, to expedite receipt of reinsurance funds.
  • Support the Actuarial and Finance teams in all aspects of financial reporting. Provide insightful MI and data analytics.
  • Satisfy all internal and external reporting requirements, in accordance with deadlines.
  • Raise material issues on a timely basis and supervise through to resolution.
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of the reinsurance process and internal controls which are in place to support it, including, but not limited to, Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX). Ensure all controls are in compliance with standards.
Requirements
  • Previous experience in the insurance industry and possess a demonstrable knowledge of insurance and reinsurance. London Markets experience would be preferred but not a must.
  • Open to growth and innovation, we are looking for a team member to possess an optimistic approach and welcome new suggestions.
  • A basic understanding of accounting principles and practices would be beneficial and the ability to interpret and analyse reinsurance contract language, in order to accurately assess the applicability of cover is a requirement.
  • Be delivery-oriented, motivated to succeed, and energized to intentionally drive their own personal development. A capacity to learn is imperative, and initiative is highly valued. Completing accountancy or insurance qualifications is encouraged.
  • Display well-developed interpersonal skills at all business levels, including interaction with external business parties.
  • Possess strong numerical and analytical skills, with examples of how these have been optimally utilised.
  • Be versatile and demonstrate experience managing large volumes of work, with changing priorities and tight timeframes.
  • Exhibit strong Excel skills and be a proficient user of MS Office. Eclipse, Oracle, as well as exposure to Phinsys and Alteryx would be beneficial.
