Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead the delivery of new defence protection products, including armour plates, shields, helmets, and bomb disposal suits. The successful candidate will have a strong technical background and excellent leadership skills to manage projects across the Composite and Armour Systems business.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage projects from initiation to delivery, ensuring timely completion, quality standards, and budget adherence.
- Work with cross-functional teams to define and coordinate resources, including engineers and designers.
- Provide technical direction to ensure system design meets customer specifications and quality requirements.
- Lead project engineering and design teams to deliver final designs that meet requirements.
- Identify and direct engineering change requests as necessary.
- Manage the full product life cycle, from bids and project initiation to development, verification, and production.
- Support problem-solving for design and product issues throughout the development and service lifecycle.
- Interact with Production and Quality teams to investigate and obtain corrective action data.
- Ensure workstream leads understand requirements and timing plans.
- Provide robust management information reporting on progress internally and externally.
- Develop close, long-term customer relationships.
- Maintain a clear understanding of project risks and opportunities, and necessary actions to follow up.
- Collaborate with the bid management team on bid preparation activities.
- Own the financial budget and forecast future risks and opportunities.
Requirements:
- Educated to degree level or relevant work-based experience.
- High level of technical proficiency underpinned by formal technical/engineering qualifications.
- Experienced Project Management professional with strong leadership skills and a demonstrable track record in successful project setup, execution, and delivery.
- Excellent communication skills and commercial awareness.
- Proficient in all Microsoft packages, including MS Project.
- A self-starter who can work independently and effectively under minimal supervision.
- Knowledge and experience in the effective use of Project Management tools and techniques.
- Ability to quickly identify the critical path and mitigate risks as they are identified.
- Ability to create effective working relationships within a challenging environment and lead multi-functional teams.
- Ability to communicate and report at all levels within the business.
- Strong negotiation skills with customers, management, peers, and subordinates.
