About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Counsellor Volunteer to join our team at Salvation Army Homes, a leading provider of housing services and support for individuals experiencing homelessness.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our residents, providing one-to-one talk therapies and supporting them on their journey towards independence.

About the Opportunity

This is an exciting chance to work with a dynamic team and contribute to our mission of transforming lives. As a Counsellor Volunteer, you will have the opportunity to develop your skills and experience in a supportive and inclusive environment.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships with clients. You will also need to have a strong understanding of the core conditions of counselling and be able to demonstrate empathy and active listening skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one talk therapies to residents, using a person-centred approach to support their emotional and psychological well-being.
  • Work collaboratively with our staff team to develop and implement individualised support plans, ensuring that residents receive the best possible care and support.
  • Contribute to the development of our counselling services, identifying areas for improvement and suggesting new initiatives to enhance the quality of our support.
  • Participate in regular supervision sessions to ensure that you are meeting the needs of our residents and receiving the support you need to perform your role effectively.

Requirements

  • Advanced diploma level or degree in Counselling or a related field.
  • 50 hours of counselling experience, with a strong understanding of the core conditions of counselling.
  • Ability to work with clients with complex needs, including those with trauma and mental health issues.
  • Disclosure and Barring Service Enhanced Certificate.
  • Salvation Army Homes induction and mandatory e-learning.
