Job Title: Industrial Placement Naval Ships Software Engineer

Location: New Malden (London)

BAE Systems offers a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements, however it is expected on our Industrial Placement programme you will be required to attend your site 3-4 days per week. Please note, this may be subject to change in line with the needs of the business. The hybrid working arrangements including which days you are required to work on site/remotely will be outlined by your line manager.

Salary: £23,100

About the Role

We design and build a full range of naval ships from offshore patrol vessels through to giant aircraft carriers, giving customers the capability to fulfil extensive naval operations around the world. As a Software Engineer on our Naval Ships team, you will be responsible for creating cutting-edge software for our hardware and be involved in the entire lifecycle of a product, from design and development to integration.

You will work closely with both Electronic and Systems engineers, enabling the development of complex real-world systems that have to perform perfectly every time, as the consequences of failure could be catastrophic.

Key Responsibilities
  • Production of software architectures and designs based on each ship's requirements.
  • Implementation of requirements and design utilising a variety of programming languages and tools.
  • Design and development of software tests to prove a number of qualities including; functionality, robustness, performance.
  • Testing and integration of software and target hardware.
  • Support of lifecycle and product maturity activities such as design reviews.
Requirements

As a minimum requirement you'll need to be on track to obtain, a 2.2 in your Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computing or Software Engineering. To be considered for this role you must be returning to university to complete your degree.
