This is an excellent opportunity to join the Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust as a Physiotherapist within our First Contact Physiotherapy Service, operating in a Primary Care environment. We seek motivated and suitably qualified Physiotherapists to become part of our supportive, patient-focused, and dedicated team. The selected candidate will be responsible for assessing and triaging patients during 20-minute consultations, following appropriate care pathways established by GP Practice teams.

The First Contact Physiotherapist will function at an advanced clinical level, possessing the skills necessary to evaluate, diagnose, treat, and manage musculoskeletal (MSK) issues and undifferentiated conditions.

Ideal candidates will be experienced Physiotherapists who:

  • Can demonstrate compliance with or progress towards the First Contact Practitioners Roadmap to Practice.
  • Exhibit enthusiasm and commitment to delivering exceptional service and a positive patient experience.
  • Have proven advanced MSK assessment capabilities.
  • Possess substantial MSK/Orthopaedic clinical experience and expertise.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assume professional accountability as a First-Contact Physiotherapist, utilizing high-level decision-making and clinical reasoning skills to assess, diagnose, and triage patients, including those with undifferentiated conditions. This role involves seeing patients without prior GP contact to establish a swift and accurate diagnosis and management strategy.
  • Enhance care pathways by delivering a responsive service that ensures patients receive timely access to treatment.
  • Provide proactive and preventive care, focusing on population health and early intervention.
  • Deliver individualized care, considering the impact of each patient's clinical status on their overall health, well-being, employment, and independence.
  • Support the FCP Clinical Lead and contribute to service enhancement and delivery.
  • Supervise, mentor, and coordinate the activities of therapists, students, and other primary care personnel.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Diploma/Degree in Physiotherapy.
  • Post-graduate qualifications relevant to MSK & Orthopaedic specialty at the Master's level or equivalent.
  • The ability to travel independently across the area and access a suitable vehicle for work purposes. Adjustments can be made in accordance with the Equality Act 2010 if necessary.
  • Progress towards completion of the First Contact Practitioner Roadmap Stage 1 & 2, either through portfolio or HEI route.

Desirable

  • Non-medical prescribing or willingness to pursue this qualification.
  • Membership in the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, management/leadership qualification, or equivalent.
  • Completion of a recognized IT course (ECDL/Elite/MOST).
  • Completion of the First Contact Practitioner Roadmap Stage 1 & 2, either through portfolio or HEI route.

Knowledge

Essential

  • Evidence of advanced clinical reasoning skills in assessing and managing patients with NMSK conditions.
  • Evidence of leadership and management expertise acquired through CPD and experience.
  • Knowledge and experience in using standardized assessments and developing relevant outcome measures.
