**Make a Difference in the Education of Visually Impaired Children**

The Visual Impairment Team at Wakefield Council is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to join our team as a Specialist Learning Support Officer. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in providing support to visually impaired pupils within our secondary resource provision.

**Key Responsibilities:**

  • Provide individualized support to visually impaired pupils to help them access the curriculum and achieve their academic goals.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, teaching assistants, and other support staff to develop and implement effective learning strategies.
  • Assist pupils with daily living skills, such as mobility and orientation, to promote independence and confidence.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of individualized education plans (IEPs) to meet the unique needs of each pupil.

**Requirements:**

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with pupils, teachers, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to use a computer and other technology to support learning and communication.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience working with children with special educational needs, particularly visual impairment, is desirable but not essential.
