Position: Quantity Surveyor
Location: Pharmaceutical Sector - CAPEX Projects
Contract Type: 12 months
Rate: £52.94 per hour - Umbrella
Working Hours: 36.5 hours per week
Work Arrangement: Hybrid - 4 days onsite, 1 day remote
The role of the Quantity Surveyor is pivotal in delivering effective cost management and contract oversight for a variety of engineering capital projects. This position is part of a dedicated team that manages a diverse portfolio of projects ranging from minor refurbishments to significant infrastructure developments.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive Quantity Surveying services to fulfill all cost and contract management needs.
- Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Quantity Surveying.
- Generate class D estimates for project justification phases and class B estimates for budget sanction phases.
- Utilize historical cost data to formulate accurate cost estimates, employing both parametric and bottom-up methodologies.
- Ensure all assumptions, qualifications, and exclusions are documented in the Basis of Estimate (BoE).
- Collaborate with project teams to develop and maintain Cost Breakdown Structures (CBS) and Work Breakdown Structures (WBS).
- Manage and update monthly expenditure forecasts and project cash flows.
- Prepare and present monthly portfolio reports to stakeholders.
- Assist in the formulation of annual budgets and liaise with finance teams.
- Conduct risk workshops to establish project reserves and manage contingency funds.
- Support the tendering process and contract management activities.
- Validate and certify payments in accordance with contract terms.
- Perform detailed cost audits and resolve contract claims and disputes.
Cost Management Expertise
The Quantity Surveyor will also be responsible for overseeing project lifecycle activities, including capital applications and asset management. This role serves as the primary contact for all cost-related queries and ensures compliance with financial procedures.
- Supervise the registration of new projects in the Capital Approval System (CAS).
- Monitor project budgets and track expenditures against progress.
- Prepare detailed variance analyses and provide strategic recommendations for cost recovery.
- Collaborate with project teams to ensure accurate reporting and compliance with accounting standards.
Qualifications and Skills
- A degree in a relevant engineering discipline is preferred, along with 5 to 10 years of related experience.
- Strong analytical and facilitation skills.
- Proven ability to manage projects within budget and timelines.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Demonstrated leadership qualities and a results-oriented mindset.
