Refrigeration Engineer

Salary: £50,027.05

Location: Glasgow/Ayrshire

Shift Pattern: Hours per day

Job Overview:

This position is essential for performing both scheduled and emergency maintenance across various sites. You will serve as the primary contact for all service and maintenance activities within your designated areas.

Your responsibilities will include the effective upkeep and repair of refrigeration systems at client locations, as well as providing support for HVAC systems that incorporate refrigeration circuits.

Our engineering teams deliver 24-hour service coverage throughout the year, utilizing planned and extended working hours, including participation in standby rota procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prioritize maintenance and repair tasks to meet agreed timelines and response expectations.
  • Quickly identify non-repairable issues and inform the Line Manager with recommendations for suitable replacements.
  • Ensure that Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedules are completed on time and that all required documentation is accurately maintained.
  • Keep all technical and compliance documentation current and complete.
  • Participate in an out-of-hours standby rota and communicate any cover requirements due to unforeseen circumstances.
  • Stay informed about relevant regulations and codes of practice applicable to your tasks.
  • Order and install parts or components as per company protocols.
  • Notify the company helpdesk of any procedural task conditions upon completion of work.
  • Communicate effectively with GSMs regarding any repair, maintenance, or installation issues that may impact store operations, fostering a collaborative relationship.
  • Respond promptly to service requests from the Helpdesk, assessing job requirements and executing repairs as necessary.
  • Conduct surveys and prepare reports as requested by the refrigeration supervisor or RFM.
  • Complete all work to the highest standards, ensuring efficiency and compliance with the company's Health and Safety policies.
  • Fulfill all assigned tasks within the designated time frame to meet company and client satisfaction.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in both written and verbal communication, including report writing and documentation procedures.
  • Attend training sessions as required to keep your skills aligned with technical and business advancements.
  • Complete all mandatory online training modules.
  • Adhere to the Health and Safety at Work Act and the company's Health and Safety Policy at all times.
  • Collaborate with company and ASDA colleagues to maintain established quality standards.
  • Represent the company professionally and cultivate positive working relationships with City and ASDA colleagues.
  • Comply with any reasonable requests or instructions from the City Management Team.

Financial Accountability:

  • Execute work in a cost-effective manner.
  • No budgetary responsibilities.

People Accountability:

  • Represent the company professionally and build strong relationships with engineering supervisors, operations managers, and department heads.
  • Collaborate with other engineers within the region or cell.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Suitable qualifications in Maths and English.
  • Completion of a time-served apprenticeship.
  • NVQ/C&G qualification in Refrigeration.
  • Participation in an approved training program.
  • Refrigerant Handling C&G 2079 or equivalent CITB certification.
  • Possession of a skill card.
  • Proficiency in refrigeration, electrical, air conditioning, and mechanical systems.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings.
  • Knowledge of health and safety legislation and applicable codes of practice.
  • Strong diagnostic and repair skills for equipment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Self-motivated and professional demeanor.
  • Capability to work at heights and use access equipment competently.
  • Valid full driving license is essential.
  • Availability for out-of-hours work and participation in standby rota.
  • Possession of a suitable personal tool kit.
