About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Ecologist to join our team at Penguin Recruitment Ltd as a Senior Ecologist. This is a fantastic opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects, from local conservation to large-scale infrastructure developments across the UK.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Management: Lead and manage ecological assessments, habitat surveys, and impact studies for various projects, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and planning policies.
  • Field Work: Conduct and oversee field surveys, including protected species surveys, habitat assessments, and ecological monitoring, to gather data and inform project decisions.
  • Writing Reports: Prepare detailed ecological reports, impact assessments, and mitigation strategies to communicate findings and recommendations to clients and stakeholders.
  • Client Liaison: Build and maintain relationships with clients, providing expert advice and guidance on ecological issues, and ensuring client satisfaction and project success.
  • Team Leadership: Mentor and support junior ecologists, fostering a collaborative and innovative team environment, and contributing to the development of team members.
  • Compliance: Ensure projects comply with relevant legislation, planning policies, and environmental standards, and identify opportunities for improvement and best practices.

Requirements

  • Experience: Proven experience within an ecological consultancy or a related field, with a strong understanding of UK wildlife legislation, planning regulations, and best practices in ecological management.
  • Qualifications: Degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline, with a master's degree or PhD being advantageous.
  • Skills: Proficient in ecological survey techniques, data analysis, and report writing, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ecology Knowledge: Strong understanding of UK wildlife legislation, planning regulations, and best practices in ecological management, with the ability to apply this knowledge in a practical and effective manner.
  • Attitude: Proactive, detail-oriented, and committed to delivering high-quality work with a positive impact, and a willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges and opportunities.
